Library Acquisition Survey, 1988 by John Dessauer Download PDF EPUB FB2

Library acquisitions is the department of a library responsible for the selection and purchase of materials or resources. The department may select vendors, negotiate consortium pricing, arrange for standing orders, and select individual titles or resources.

Libraries, both physical and digital, usually have four common broad goals that help dictate these responsibilities. The Library of Congress acquires materials in all formats--books, periodicals, maps, music, prints, photographs, recorded sound, videos, etcand in all subjects, except technical, agriculture and clinical medicine, from all over the Library Acquisition Survey.

The collection is shaped by the Library's Collection Policy Statements. Selection and Ordering Process. Most departments have a Library Committee representative who decides which items will enhance the Library’s collection.

Faculty may submit orders through their department’s Library Committee representative. Decide on the method of acquisition. The acquisition process takes place within a set budget, and is based on library policies aimed at developing collections tailored to the diverse requirements of an advanced research institution.

Special emphasis is placed upon acquisition of materials relevant to the fields of study and research currently undertaken at the university. The following amendments to Book Procurement Policy, were made by the Library Advisory Committee Meeting held on 27th August, 1) We already have a provision for procuring the urgent books through credit/debit cards of the faculty for their students and utilization of this facility is rare and research scholars are requesting to procure the urgent books through their credit.

This volume will help you acquire and manage a strong collection for your library, even when budgets are being cut. Topics covered include purchasing materials, formulating selection criteria, sharing materials with other institutions, and evaluating and preserving materials.
